6 Day Husky Mushing Safari in Lapland

Day 1 - Sunday: Arrive at the airport and transfer to the hotel in Sodankylä. After having time to relax you will meet your guide and the other members of the group. Instructions will be provided in relation to your projected route for the week and general information in relation huskies and sledding. Early night recommended in anticipation of the day and week ahead. Overnight: Sodankylä - Hotel

Day 2 - Monday: Transfer to a Husky farm for a visit around the kennels to learn how to harness the dogs and rig a team, feed and care for your team.  Following further instruction, preparation and lunch you will embark on a 4km training run before setting off into the fells around Luosto. On arrival at tonights' cabin, it is time to take on your responsibility to care and feed your team of dogs and build a relationship as they are your responsibility and transport for the next 5 days. Overnight: Wilderness cabin

Day 3 - Tuesday: Day will begin with seeing to the needs of your team of dogs. One of the days' thrills is the initial departure from the overnight resting place; your dogs are well rested and raring to go. The tie rope released and secured, one foot off the brake, then the other and away you go, your team of dogs pulling you through the beautiful fells and forests of the Luosto region, across frozen lakes and up and down the gentle hills of Lapland. The scenery is magnificent, varying each month throughout the season as the skies change and the daylight hours increase. Lunch stops will be a feature, maybe at a traditional Lappish kota or simply beside the track with the guides quickly turning a snowy clearing into a comfortable, protected meal area. One of the delightful aspects of this Husky Mushing safari is the loyalty shown by your dogs, after only a couple of days they will understand that you are their master and carer, they will love you for it and the contact made during rest stops will be enjoyed by you both. Overnight: Wilderness cabin.

Day 4 - Wednesday: As the week draws to an end, you will make your way back to the Husky farm to return all equipment and have lunch. Sadly its time to bid a sad farewell to your team of dogs followed by a visit to the adjoining reindeer farm for a short reindeer sleigh ride before returning to Sodankylä, knowing that you truly have had the adventure of a lifetime with a man's best friend. Overnight: Sodankylä- Hotel

Day 5 - Thursday: Sleep in, relax or go for a stroll to explore Sodankylä before returning to the airport for your journey home.
